The Barnegat Bay Partnership and its many partners run monitoring and restoration projects across the Barnegat Bay watershed in New Jersey. They needed one place to see all of that work and to track progress toward the partnership's ecosystem-based targets. The source data was a large dataset that wasn't built for the web, and partners keep adding to it.

We restructured the data for the web and set up a simple process for regular internal updates. Many projects overlap in a small area, so we designed a symbology system that lets users tell them apart at a glance, with options to filter data by conservation goal and area of interest. The map makes the work of scientists and environmental practitioners visible, and it helps the public understand efforts to protect the bay and nearby communities from the effects of climate change.

Although the information in the monitoring portal has been funded wholly or in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency under agreement to the Barnegat Bay Partnership, it has not undergone the Agency's publications review process and therefore, may not necessarily reflect the views of the Agency.
